G’day! So here is where you find out more about me. I am a freelance musician/sole trader living in South Australia with my two awesome pets!
Having a dad who is a piano teacher meant that I was inspired by music from a very early age. The first performance I recall was playing the right hand of Away in a Manger at church when I was four. Since then I have graduated from both the Elder Conservatorium and the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in classical piano performance and contemporary music.
I make my career in my hometown of Adelaide working as a soloist, accompanist (of choirs, improvised theatre, contemporary dance, classical ballet including free work, ISTD ballet syllabus exams, cabaret shows, festivals, instrumentalists and vocalists), music director and repetiteur. I have performed in many restaurants, cafes, cinemas and pubs Australia wide and have collaborated with and recorded other artists compositions, won Eisteddfods and have my own music available on iTunes and CDBaby. My Christmas Pageant song has been performed live at the Adelaide Christmas Pageant over the last few years and is available for purchase 🙂
I have performed overseas with Vintage Vendetta’s The Bailey Dolls and in 2017 was an invited accompanist to the International Congress of Vocal Teachers in Sweden.
2013 saw the beginnings of my own production company, Emma Knights Productions, with the vision to create jobs and opportunities for artists in South Australia as well as unique music based experiences for audiences. Productions to date include Floating Melodies, Space Encounters, Oklahoma!, Pirates of Penzance on the Popeye, Lose Yourself – A local singer/songwriter concert, Tales of Adventure, Aqua Beats, A Day With Jane, Haydn Seek, Barn Dances, Back to the Future Day and more. 2016 saw my first curation of an Adelaide Fringe venue for the Adelaide Oval called LIVE on 5 – 7 stages with over 150 acts across 14 days and for 2018 I will be curating for the National Wine Centre.
I have won several awards for my work as a musical director, the latest being for the musical Xanadu in 2014 with Davine Interventions, my production of Oklahoma! on a horse farm was nominated for Best Professional Musical of the Year by the Adelaide Theatre Guide Awards 2016 and my 2017 production of Chicago was nominated for Best Professional Musical of the Year and Best Female Performer and Jeff Lang won Best Male Performer of the Year for his performance of Billy Flynn. Floating Melodies has been the recipient of two bronze tourism awards and one Silver award 2016. My company is also an accredited Tourism business which allows me to reach set standards for customer service, sustainability and more.
I am very passionate about my home state, about the music/arts industries and about keytars. I believe anything is possible and that life should be about doing what you love! Fill your life with experiences, not things and spend your time with family and friends, make music, dance, read fantasy novels, play video games and collect snowglobes! If that is what you love to do! I also love putting a smile on audiences faces and so I hope to see you at one of my productions and that we make you smile.
Thank you for visiting, I hope to meet you soon!
